Substack and newsletters, in your podcast app

Paste the link to a Substack post, or any newsletter you read on the web, and it becomes an episode in your own private podcast feed. With a plan, follow a publication, and its new free posts arrive on their own.

Your first article is free, up to 30 minutes. No card needed.

One post at a time

Paste the post's link into your Library. You see the running time and the price, then press Make, and it's safe to close the tab.

The episode lands in your podcast feed with chapters at the post's section breaks. Footnotes are read as asides, and the people a post quotes get voices of their own.

Listen to what you already pay to read. On a computer, Cast this page, the browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox, sends a post from your own signed-in browser. It reads the page as your browser shows it to you, and nothing is read until you press its button.

You see the price before anything is made. The extension comes with a paid plan.

Following: new posts, on their own

With a plan, follow a Substack publication, or another publication's RSS feed. When a new free post appears, it's made into an episode and added to your podcast feed, even while you're signed out.

You set the limits: a cap for each publication and for each post, daily and monthly allowances, and a balance kept back for the articles you add yourself. A post over your limits waits in your Library, priced, without charging.

Feeds are checked about every five minutes, some publications less often, and the interval is shown beside each one. Following starts with new posts: older posts and paid previews aren't brought in, though you can paste an older post's link yourself.

Where it plays

Your feed has its own private address. Add it to Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts, AntennaPod, Podcast Addict and most other podcast apps. Spotify and YouTube Music can't add private feeds.

Every episode also plays on the site, with a read-along that lights each line as it's spoken.

Following and the extension come with a plan, from $9 a month for 200 credits. One credit is about one minute of finished audio.
